June 2026 Men's Mental Health Awareness Month *

Father/son canoe trips on Saskatchewan's Churchill River. Six days off the grid. A place where dads, boys, and lifelong friendships grow stronger together. Honest conversations simply happen.

What is one thing you do each day for your mental fitness ………..and what is one piece of advice you have for other men that are struggling?

  • "So what do I do when I am feeling overwhelmed and can't workout? I take 5 min at my desk. and breathe.... 4 seconds in and 4 out. My advice as a guy in a profession that for the first 15 years of my career we were made to feel you were a broken toy if you went for help. Who cares. Go for help for your loved ones, and so you can enjoy life. The badass dudes on the planet treat their mental health like going to the gym..... so why can’t I? So when I am old I can still move around.

  • For my mental fitness I start each day with some AA readings and a reading on Peace from a book I have. I then do 15 mins of MELT Which is a form of Pilates. I do small exercises with 2 foam rollers, concentrate on my breathing, go slow and think positively about my body. For question 2, I feel that talking to a Psychologist is a good step to start to dig down, find out what your issues are and discuss them and not let them bottle up inside of you. They are neutral so can give you good advice.

  • My mental health fitness is my dog as well whether that is taking him for a walk or playing with him in the backyard. I would absolutely tell someone to reach out if you aren’t feeling well mentally and talk to someone and seek help. I am seeing someone to help me cope with anxiety and it wasn’t easy and took alot of courage but so worth it as my anxiety is now under control.

  • 1. Exercise (move my body) 2. Connect with others Ideally some combination of these two that reminds me that I’m a part of something much larger than myself.

  • One thing I try and do for my mental fitness is get some physical activity in, whether that is a walk, run, weight training. Anything that involves movement. Getting the blood flowing always makes me feel good after. Also meeting up with friends, having interaction with friends is always good for the head space that can be all over the place. My advice would be if your struggling is to reach out, you would be surprised in how many other men feel the same way as you do. We have been taught to bottle it up, deal with it like a man, don’t be weak! Talking it out with someone always seems to help!
